Major Project: Logo research

Business logo is perhaps the most important element of company’s branding. Logo should represent company stands and makes it recognisable and different from other business. The primary role of a logo is to identify.

Logo is basically a simple symbol or short inscription like name of the brand or first name and/or last name if we want to connect brand with owners name. It is a strategic tool. It must achieve image goals. A well designed logo will be memorable and helps costumers to remember the brand.

In my previous post I have been researching graphic designers website. I can clearly see that almost every of them use typography logos. That means that their logos are theirs name. For most small businesses or businesses where we try to promote our personal brand, it is good idea to include name in the design to make thing easy for costumers.

The good logo is:

1. Simple

2. Identity with brand

3. Universal and timeless

4. Easy to remember

Here are examples of good logos that I like:

These logotypes are simple. The Siegel & Gale research report says that:

-64% of consumers are ready to spend more in exchange for simpler experiences.

-61% companies that use simple communication receive so many more recommendations

For example: Nike is a multi-million dollar multinational organization that has become famous thanks to the widespread use of its logo. The "hook" can be found on products such as sports equipment, clothes and shoes. The success of a logo comes from the ability to scale the company name and its logo. To use the maximum potential, the trademark should be able to be used in different sizes and on different materials.

Most logos include typography. The font chosen to represent your company plays a large part in determining the meaning and impact of logo. Many successful logos are simply typographic. This is known as the logotype, and it can stand alone or work together with icons or symbols.

Short about typography:

Typography is the design or selection of letter forms organised into words and sentences. The history of the type dates back to the ancient Greeks. Used to creating typefaces and typesetting were crafts that took years of apprenticeship to develop and master. Now this graphic design discipline has progressed and it has become an increasingly present factor in our lives. Personal computers today come with dozens of typefaces as standard, giving people access to a quantity of different styles and ways of expressing themselves.

Here are some examples of typography logos:

Gucci is a famous fashion house from Italy. Here in logo we use name of the owner of the mark. It is also name of the Fashion House. It is written in Serif font, reminiscent of Granjon Roman. This logo works with lot of colours what is important because of the specific place of its use. It is simple, glamorous and workable.

In June 2014, the owners of the streaming service conducted a global rebranding. The inscription is made in a custom font. It is based on the Gotham Book and Gotham Bold. According to the brand concept, the main red and black gamut should emphasise the cinema quality of the premium class.

  2. You have chosen good examples and written about them fairly well, but you need to add the context again and discuss what you have learned from this research and analysis. What might your own logo be then? Would you have text based, image based or both? What colours or font style might you use?
