Class Development Exercise
In this task we were asked for chose one of the methods for ideas development and use it to our own work. I chose first one: the meditative approach.
I had to clear my mind and think about theme that I chosen. Then I had to describe everything I saw in my mind.
My theme is “Expressionism look deeply into expressionism and incorporate this style into your art and design project”.
For my project I want to create 6 movie posters. My first idea was to recreate the most famous movie posters in expressionism style. But after this exercise and my feedback from my tutor I end up with few different versions of this idea.
I can create my own movie and then create 6 posters for it.
I can ask my friends and family and create advertising posters for theirs movies.
I can create one movie with six main characters and create separate poster for every character.
I can make one advertising poster for movie and 5 different outcomes for this project like packaging and other advertising elements.
I can create poster for one movie but in 6 different styles using styles of expressionism artists.
I can create 6 pieces of illustration, creating story like comics.
There are lots of good ideas here, it is important to focus on what is most imporatant. As discussed in the tutorial in Week 3, relating your project to a family story, creating a narrative around that would be a good way to go forward. Start to consider research which can support this, such as looking at Expressionist movie posters (between 1918 and 1031 - that was the period when expressionism was used in films, particularly in Germany). Look at the work of Fritz Lang (Metropolis), F.W Murnau (Nosferatu) and G W Pabst (Pandora's Box).
