Research Exercise: Who am I?

On today’s lecture we were researching ourselves. We were trying to answer questions like “who am I?, “why am I?”, “how did I become myself?”. We began with draw outline  of body. I decided to draw girl with dress, become I always liked to wear this kind of clothes. Also folk costumes of women in my country looks very similar. Then we started to answer the simple questions about our whole life.

On my drawing we can see a lot of white and red combinations. I used this colours because they are colours of my country- Poland. On the bottom of dress I drew my closest family members - my mom, my sister, my grandmother and great-grandmother. They are the most important people in my life. Then I added another layer in dress. This my early teens years. The most important thing for this period of my life was theatre. People who I met there and values that I learned was very important for me than. Also theatre changed me as a parson. Before it I was shy and I didn’t believe in myself but after I joined theatre group everything started to change. From this period I also remembered that I was learning to swim. It was important for me because almost nobody in my family can swim. I was learning in school as a PE. Then I added my character. I decided to colour them. The red ones are the most important, like this biggest one. The pink one are the good one and the grey one are not so good. Sometimes my one personality trait had more then one colour. Outside the body we can read few events from my life that I remember the most.

  1. Not a bad effort, quite thoughtful, but as an Illustrator, didn't you want to illustrate the parts that you left black or just described with text? This feels like a missed opportunity to use your ability in terms of drawing to make more of this than you did. For example, playing games as a child - which games? Or moving house 5 times - you could have included a drawing of the favourite place you lived in.

  2. Also you haven't posted your Major Project Plan or Project Sign off yet. These must be on your blog with commentary on what you are doing and the timescale you are working to for the rest of the term.
