Major Project: Interview

 Reminder:

My project is to create 6 illustrations looking as movie posters. Visually they will be based on posters created during the period of Expressionism. Movie posters that I want create will be based on movie that I will invent. Movie will be based on my great-grandmas’ life and posters will be present 6 stage of her life.

In this post I want to summarise interview with my grandma that I did and add comments of my idea on posters.

My grandma started with her childhood. She was born in Warsaw which is capital city of Poland. She was born a short time before the second war. My grandma love Warsaw and she always want to visit this city. When war started, she moved on the countryside to her family to be safe. She has 3 siblings. To brothers and sister. They all lived on this countryside with their mom. They usually play inside the house because they were scared to go outside. However they like to go to the nearest road and collect various treasures such as blackberries or sticks that they can play with. Ma grandma’s favourite thing to do was reading books and swinging on a swing.

After war ended she end her siblings come back to Warsaw. They had two flats, however everyone was destroyed. They had to move out to a summer house, however it was temporary because winter was coming. After few months they got flat from the city in the Warsaw. They could move to the next place.

Next year my grandma went to a primary school. She was a very good student. On the last year she had to decide where she want to go next. In her school began to appear different adverts about schools. One day she went to a presentation about pedagogical school. She really liked it and then she decided that she want to be a teacher. She went to this school and she remembers those times good but difficult.  Those were the Stalinist times, so my grandma had to be carful and she had to follow many rules. One of them was that people can not sing in church’s choir. But my grandma was a a person who practices religion and she become a member of the group. She had to keep it in secret.

After high school she had to go to work. In those days there was a work order. She had to move out to polish city - Szklarska Poreba. That’s where she met her future husband. She works there as a teacher and after few years she move out to Wroclaw. She started working in new school. Here also she gave birth to her first child. However she had to raise the child alone and that is why she couldn’t stop working. She had to keep that she has a child in secret. After few years she gave birth to her second child. She worked in this school 7 years and she raised her children. She lived opposite the school so she ran home during breaks to spend time with her children’s. After 7 years she become director in other school. My great-grandmother worked as a director until retirement. She loved this job so much that she during her retirement still belonged to the Polish teachers' union and she still belong till this day.

This interview is also the idea for a movie. To create 6 posters I want to use events from her life. Here are my ideas:

1. Warsaw during the war in the background. Train in the foreground with children moving out to a countryside.

2. Countryside and my grandma on a swing.

3. Destroyed Warsaw in the background. 4 people standing back to us in the foreground - only black figures. (3 siblings and father).

4. Children in the school. Choir in the background?

5. My grandma as a teacher.

6. I do not know.. still in progress
