Major Project: Piece Study

 For my piece to study in this post I decided to design a brad character for my tea shop. It will call a “Ryu Tea”. Ryu is a Japanese mythical creature - dragon, that is why I decided my character to be a dragon. 

I want my brand to be associated with calm and something safe. Also when I think about Japanese brand I usually think about cute packaging in kawaii style on in theirs cultural style. For my character I decided to go for a cute style. 

I decided to design my character in different ways before I will decide which I want to use. First I sketched whole character. Then I added colours and contour. For main characters colour I decided to use green that I want to use in my brand, and for a background I decided to use complimentary colour. However, I don’t think I will use purple in my brand identity. 

After I created whole image I decided to make this in grey scale to see if it will be working without colours. After I changed it I added little details which made it more pleasure for an eyes and I redesigned colour version. 

I want my brand to be delicate and associated with ECO brands. That’s I want to use natural packaging in colour of bamboo. That’s why I decided to create another version of my character without contour to create more “light looking” image. I designed it in colour, grey scale and with background. 

On the way I also had an idea to use only contour and add colour in different way to use only one colour. However, I end up not liking this idea.
