Title: Process

Title for my project is my great-grandmother' surname. In this post I would like to show the process of creating a title design.

When I was doing research for this project I noticed that artists in times of German expressionism used a specific style of fonts to posters. You can observe it here:

'M' by Fritz Lang, 1931
'The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari' by Robert Wiene, 1920 and 'Metropolis' by Fritz Lang, 1927

Every poster (from above) has a font that looks like hand written. What I noticed is that they use sans serif fonts, bold, distorted and with rough edges. What I like in this kind of font that they reminds me of retro/vintage style. Also, I associate it with things like: darkness or horror movies. It also reminds me a little bit the logo of Metalica. So I associate this style also with every things related to metal music.

My biggest inspiration for title design was 'M' and 'Metropolis' by Fritz Lang. I liked posters created for this movie and I liked type fonts used to creation. For my title I decided to create something with bold typeface and I wanted to be hand written. For more inspiration I looked at other font designers here: https://www.myfonts.com/tags/German+Expressionism/

To create my title I used a ProCreate. To create even letters I used grid than I started create lines. That is how I created empty shapes that I fill with the colour later. The process of creating was not hard, however thing with I had problem was to create straight, clean lines. However to create such lines that still will look hand-written the procreate app is perfect. It has option that when you draw the line and hold it, it became straight. I used this technique.
