Major Project: Piece Study

Image
For my piece to study in this post I decided to design a brad character for my tea shop. It will call a “Ryu Tea”. Ryu is a Japanese mythical creature - dragon, that is why I decided my character to be a dragon.  I want my brand to be associated with calm and something safe. Also when I think about Japanese brand I usually think about cute packaging in kawaii style on in theirs cultural style. For my character I decided to go for a cute style.  I decided to design my character in different ways before I will decide which I want to use. First I sketched whole character. Then I added colours and contour. For main characters colour I decided to use green that I want to use in my brand, and for a background I decided to use complimentary colour. However, I don’t think I will use purple in my brand identity.  After I created whole image I decided to make this in grey scale to see if it will be working without colours. After I changed it I added little details which made ...

Tell me a story

Once upon a time there was a land called Yokai. It was a place of great beauty looked like jungle and meadow in one. There was flowers as high that they looked like trees and trees was so small that they looked like flowers. Everything was opposite the world we know. In Yokai lived magical creatures. It was world closed for humans. There was harmony there and peace. Yokai inhabited Kappas (creatures that looked like big, mossy turtles), Fairies, Elfs, Onis (demons), Wizards and many, many more.  However, at the end of the land there was something unusual for this world. If you walk along the cost, you would find gate and behind the gate you would have seen big tree. The tree was so large that it served as a house for a king of the Yokai, dragon called Ryu. The King was very strong and wise and he was a guardian of the gate that departed Yokai from a human world. However Ryu was getting older. To feel healthy and good as long as he can he went for a long walks and drink hot wa...

Major Project Initial Research: Tea Ceremony

Image
Chanoyu is a Japanese Tea Ceremony. It is tradition of preparing and drinking usually the green tea. A full ceremony is a multi-hour event which includes dress code, special place, art of preparing the tea and enjoying it (which is important part like others). The protocol of a tea ceremony is defined down to exact hand movements. It could be different  according to the different schools. The traditional Chanoyu is surrounded by a garden to encourage a calm spirit. In gardens we can find the stone lantern where people can wash their hands before entering the tearoom. Ceremony traditionally takes place in a tatami room which is decorated by scrolls or seasonal flowers.  Japanese “way of tea” it is not only the drinking but also a way of thinking. It is based on the Japanese principle: “Ichigi ichie” which means “Live every day as thought it were your last”. The utensils used during a tea ceremony are: The Chasen The Chashaku The Natsume The Chawan  Today is more like...

SMART objective

Image
For my project Art Design Project I want to design a brand for an imaginary Tea Shop. I will design the logo, advertising, business cards and packaging.  For the 3D outcome I decided to create presentation included 3d outcomes such as package presentation or print whole brand representation as an physical portfolio. The project is related to my progression route and I will be able to use all my design skills and learn new one. I am going to use softwares like: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop and Canva. Compared to my last major project this one is achievable because it focuse more on design skills rather than illustration.

The Fantastic Five

In this post I will represent five ideas for my new major project. This term we had to create four 2D artworks and one 3D outcome.  Themes between we can choose to are: 1. Oriental Surprise. Explore the art of the Orient both traditional and contemporary. 2. Primitivism. Enjoy a ride into the past.  3. Ultimate Black. Create your pieces using the colour of night.  I choose Oriental Surprise. That is because I am interested in East culture. My ideas are: To create brand for restaurant with Asian food or rebrand existing one.  To create brand for a cosmetics. I am in love with Korean cosmetics and they have recognisable style.  To create brand for a Chinese Tea Shop. Maybe I can create brand for dream Tea Shop one’s of my favourite character - Iroh from “Avatar: The Last Airbander”. To create posters inspired by Studio Ghibli (which I love!). To project clothes design with oriental style. Create notes inspired by oriental style.

Term 3, Week One: Icebreaking Exercise

Image
For our first exercise we were asked to make a 3d self portrait. For this exercise I decided to make something less obvious, something more abstract. The artist I looked up is Paul Klee. He was a German artist and he created in his individual style. He is known for his simple stick figures, moon faces and eyes.  The works I looked on was:  Characters in yellow , Paul Klee, 1937 When I look at this artwork I see here different parts of body. Thanks to this I had an idea to create my 3d portrait by putting different parts of face in different positions but it still have to look like face when you look at it.  Senecio , Paul Klee, 1922

Term 3: Welcome post!

Image
Welcome back on my blog. We are in our last term after the spring term. During the break I spent most of my time reading. I used read all the time but my problem is that when i start reading I couldn’t stop. However during break I had more time that I could spent on seating, doing nothing and reading. The first book I read was in my opinion the best one and that is why I want to share it with you - “The Tattooist of Auschwitz” by Heather Morris.  Very heartwarming and heartbreaking but also scare for itself  way. Books tells story based on facts. It is history of one of the bravest man on the planet: “In 1942, Lale Sokolov arrived in Auschwitz-Birkenau. He was given the job of tattooing the prisoners marked for survival - scratching numbers into his fellow victims' arms in indelible ink to create what would become one of the most potent symbols of the Holocaust. Waiting in line to be tattooed, terrified and shaking, was a young girl. For Lale - a dandy, a jack-the-lad, a...
